There are many programs which should not be launched on a computer, by anyone and at any time, because they can slow it down or affect it in other ways. If you want to make sure this does not happen, Process Blocker can help you. This lightweight utility can prevent any Windows application from being launched. It is designed to address the needs of system administrators, but it can be used by anyone, due to its user friendly design.

Process Blocker comes in free and paid versions, for Windows XP and later versions. Regardless of which one you choose, you can install the application in no time, with a single click. There is no need to meet any special requirements and you can run the application even on older machines.

The application is simple and straightforward from any point of view. If you wish to block a process, all you have to do is add an executable to a list, on Process Blocker's compact user interface. Additionally, you can tick an option to block other applications, if they have identical CRCs. As a result, the targeted applications will be blocked even if you rename their executables.

When running a blocked application, the system will simply display an error message. You can also enable system tray notifications for this event, in the application's general settings menu. If you wish to temporarily allow an application to be launched and block again later, you can simply click its check box, rather than removing its entry from the list and browsing for its executable again.

Process Blocker's paid version comes with a few extra features, which makes it worth buying. When targeting an executable, you can also set the application to prevent specific users or groups from running that file. Also, the paid version allows you to compile an exceptions list. Process Blocker is currently in its late development stage. Once fully completed, the application will incorporate a remote control feature as well.

Pros

You can prevent individual applications from being launched. The application can block all applications with the same CRC. It can also prevent specific users from running applications.

Cons

The possibility of blocking users is reserved for the paid version. With Process Blocker on your computer, you can make sure that certain applications will never be launched, regardless of the circumstances.
